This is a quote my sister sent to me the other day.  It provides some food for thought and reminds my yet again why I love the concept of Artist, Interrupted. We had a wonderful dress rehearsal for the concert this past weekend. I was telling one of the performers that even if no one comes (which I already know won't be the case)  I would consider the concert a success because I saw women bettering themselves by taking the time to do something creatively beautiful and difficult.

“Woman’s life today is tending more and more toward the state William James describes so well in the German word, “Zerrissenheit—torn-to-pieces-hood.”  She cannot live perpetually in “Zerrissenheit.”   She will be shattered into a thousand pieces.  On the contrary, she must consciously encourage those pursuits which oppose the centrifugal forces of today.  Quiet time alone, contemplation, prayer, music, a centering line of thought or reading, of study or work.  It can be physical or intellectual or artistic, any creative life proceeding from oneself.  It need not be an enormous project or a great work.  But it should be something of one’s own.”

Pre-concert week!

It can be difficult to pull your art out of the attic of your mind and dust it off to present to others. Sometimes I question whether it's a good idea...but only for a second. As the concert date has gotten closer and closer I have realized that it's worth every bit of effort. The steps towards progress feel like slow motion but they are stronger and more eager than ever. This quote pretty much sums up what I am trying to say.

 So on that note...bring it on concert week!
